Most Americans do not get adequate amounts of iodine in their diets which is found in seaweed, seafood, iodized salt and other foods in trace amounts. We need iodine in order for our thyroids to work at optimum levels. If our thyroid is sluggish we will experience many symptoms such as fatigue, inability to lose weight, weight gain, and much more. There are also foods that can block the absorption of iodine. These foods are healthy in other ways so just be aware and maybe be careful to eat them in moderation. These foods include beets, almonds, broccoli, kale, cabbage, brussel sprouts, and cauliflower. Selenium helps our bodies absorb iodine. Brazil nuts contain large amounts of selenium so it doesn’t take many. A couple of nuts a day may keep the doctor away!
